AQUAMATION PROCESS
Also called alkaline hydrolysis, water reduction, bio-cremation, green cremation, and flame-less cremation, aquamation is an emerging form of body care that is gentler to the environment. It has been around for decades and is used in the human world too. More and more communities are learning about its benefits and joining the revolution to offer a more sustainable, eco-friendly alternative.
Cremains are returned to families 7-10 days after we receive your pet.
Harmony Pet Aquamation also provides many options of urns. Our complimentary container(s) is a simple black marbled plastic urn and is inclusive with individual aquamation. Upgrades are available when making arrangements, we will ask which option you prefer. You are welcome to provide your own container as well.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Harmony Pet Aquamation system uses alkaline hydrolysis to essentially accelerate what takes place in natural decomposition in the soil. A combination of gentle water flow, temperature, and alkalinity is used to accelerate the natural course of time. At the end of the process, the body has been returned to its natural form in water. Similar to cremation, the only solid remains are the mineral ash of the bones. The ash is a light sage or white color because it retains more minerals, is clean, and without carbon discoloration. Because the bone and ash needs to go through drying time, a day or two more is needed before cremains can be returned to families (if desired). Aquamation generates a sterile, EPA-neutral liquid solution of amino acids, peptides, and sugars that is suitable for release onto the earth or discharged into the sewer system.
Individual and communal services are available using aquamation. A communal aquamation means the cremains will not be returned to families. Individual aquamation means your pet’s remains will be returned to you. Private chambers reside within the machine providing a complete barrier among individual pets.

SAFELY HOLDING A PET’S BODY OVERNIGHT
It is common for families to want to keep their deceased pet overnight before aquamation arrangements are made the next day. Pets can be safely kept in the home, garage, or other protected area away from wildlife and the elements. We recommend keeping them in a cool place and shrouded with a light sheet or blanket. If they will be inside the home, please tuck towels or absorbent pads under their body to contain fluids. Odor can be reduced by spraying neutralizing aerosols, lighting scented candles, or diffusing essential oils like lemon, eucalyptus, and purification into the air. The body will become firm within a few hours of death, so if possible, tuck legs into a sleeping position. And many families take this time as an opportunity to spend time with their beloved pet; to honor and reflect on the beautiful life shared. Pets can be safely kept in the home for a day or two if desired.
VIEWINGS
Families are invited to make arrangements for viewing their pet’s body before aquamation. This takes place at our facility during business hours (M-F, 9-5pm). This is especially important for families whose pet has passed while they were away and who wish to spend time with their pet before aquamation takes place. There is no charge for viewings. Witnessed aquamation services are not offered at our facility as it takes around 20 hours to complete. If you wish to view your pet’s cremation, we invite you to make arrangements with All Pets Great and Small Cremation Service. www.allpets.biz
